Card templates
TeamsCard templates let you define a set of default values and locked fields that apply to every card created from the template. Use them to keep your team's cards on-brand with consistent company details, colors, logos, and links.
What you can include in a template
A card template supports the same fields as a regular card:
- Template name - An internal label to identify the template (for example, "Sales team" or "Engineering"). This is not visible on cards.
- Personal details - Headline text and accreditations.
- Company info - Company name, job title, and department.
- Links - Email, phone, address, website, LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, YouTube, Calendly, TikTok, WhatsApp, and custom links.
- Colors - Background and accent colors.
- Images - Profile photo and company logo.
Field locking
The key feature of card templates is field locking. When you lock a field on a template, the value you set becomes fixed on every card that uses the template. Card owners cannot change locked fields on their own cards.
For example, if you lock the Company field with the value "Acme Inc.", every card using that template will always display "Acme Inc." regardless of who owns the card.
You can lock:
- Headline and accreditations
- Company name, job title, and department
- Individual link types (email, phone, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Background and accent colors
- Profile image and logo
Unlocked fields act as defaults. They are pre-filled when a card is created from the template, but the card owner can change them.
When you update a locked field on a template, the change is automatically applied to all cards using that template. Wallet passes (Apple Wallet and Google Wallet) are also updated automatically.
Creating a card template
Only organization owners can create and edit card templates.
- Open the templates page
Go to Card templates on your dashboard and click Create template.
- Name your template
Enter a template name. This is for your reference only and is not shown on cards.
- Set personal details
Add a headline and accreditations if you want them to appear on cards using this template. Toggle the lock icon next to each field to lock or unlock it.
- Set company info
Fill in the company name, job title, and department. Lock any fields that should be consistent across all cards.
- Add links
Tap a link icon (email, phone, LinkedIn, etc.) to add it to the template. Each link type has its own lock toggle. Locked links cannot be removed or changed by card owners.
- Choose colors
Set the background and accent colors. Lock them if you want all cards to match your brand colors exactly.
- Add images
Upload a profile photo and company logo. Lock either image to prevent card owners from replacing it.
- Save
Click Create to save the template. You can now select it when creating team cards.
Editing a card template
To edit a template, go to Card templates and click the template you want to change. Make your edits and click Save.
Changes to locked fields are pushed to all cards using the template automatically. For example, if you update the locked company logo, every card on that template gets the new logo.
Updating a template affects all cards that use it. Review your changes carefully before saving, especially if you are changing locked fields.
Using templates with cards
When creating a card (either from your own dashboard or as a team card), you can select a template from the Template dropdown under Team details.
Selecting a template:
- Pre-fills all template values into the card (company name, colors, logo, links, etc.)
- Locks any fields that are locked on the template, preventing edits
- Links the card to the template so future template updates are applied automatically
You can also create cards without a template and fill in all fields manually.
Tips for using templates
- Start with a general template. Create one template with your company-wide defaults (logo, colors, company name) and use it as a starting point. You can always create more specific templates later for different teams or departments.
- Lock sparingly. Only lock fields that truly need to be consistent. Locking too many fields limits what team members can personalize on their cards.
- Use descriptive names. Name your templates clearly (for example, "Marketing - US" or "Engineering - London") so team owners can quickly find the right one when creating cards.
