Private card sharing

Private card sharing lets you restrict access to your card so it can only be viewed through a secure, expiring link. Instead of a public URL that anyone can visit, your card is shared using a tokenized link that automatically refreshes, keeping your contact details secure across all share methods including Apple and Google Wallet.

How it works

When private card sharing is enabled:

  • Your public card URL (lynkle.com/yourhandle) returns a "not found" page for anyone without a valid link.
  • All share methods (copy link, QR code, email, text, WhatsApp, Apple Wallet, Google Wallet) use a secure link with a token that expires after 3 days.
  • A new token is generated every 24 hours. Previous tokens remain valid until they expire, so anyone you've shared your card with recently can still access it for up to 3 days.
  • Your Apple Wallet and Google Wallet passes update automatically with the latest token, so your saved passes always work.
  • Your card is excluded from search engines, regardless of your searchable card setting.

You don't need to do anything to keep your links fresh. Token rotation and wallet pass updates happen automatically in the background.

Enabling private card sharing

  1. Go to the card editor for the card you want to make private.
  2. Scroll to the Visibility section.
  3. Toggle on Private card sharing.
  4. Save your card.

Once enabled, all your share links, QR codes, and wallet passes automatically include the secure token. You don't need to copy a special link or do anything differently when sharing.

Sharing a private card

You share a private card the same way you share any card. Every share method automatically includes the current valid token:

  • Copy link copies a tokenized URL to your clipboard.
  • QR code encodes the tokenized URL, so anyone who scans it gets access.
  • Email, text, and WhatsApp include the tokenized link in the message.
  • Apple Wallet and Google Wallet passes contain a QR code with the tokenized link. Passes update automatically when the token rotates, so they always work.

Every email signature style requires a public card. If private card sharing is enabled, make the card public before creating or updating a signature.

What recipients see

When someone opens your private card link, they see your card exactly as they would if it were public. There's no password prompt or extra step. The token in the URL handles access silently.

If someone tries to visit your public URL (lynkle.com/yourhandle) without a valid token, they see a "not found" page. This prevents anyone from guessing or bookmarking your card URL to access it later.

Token expiry and rotation

Tokens rotate on a 24-hour cycle:

  • A new token is created every 24 hours.
  • Each token is valid for 3 days from when it was created.
  • Old and new tokens overlap, so there's no moment when shared links stop working.

This means that after you share your card with someone, they can access it for up to 3 days. After that, the token in their link expires and they would need a fresh link from you.

If your subscription ends

Private card sharing requires an active Lynkle Pro or Teams subscription. If your subscription lapses while private card sharing is enabled:

  • Your card becomes inaccessible to everyone, including people with previously valid tokens.
  • Your card editor and card list show a warning that private card sharing is not available on your plan.
  • Token rotation stops.

To restore access, either upgrade to Lynkle Pro or Teams, or turn off private card sharing to make your card public again.
